Las Vegas odds play a huge role in a serious daily fantasy baseball player's draft preparation. The first reason you should always look at Vegas MLB odds is because it indicates which team is expected to win the game. Baseball doesn't have point spreads, they use odds to balance out the variance in teams. If a team is favored by -150 or more, the bookmaker's think that the favored team will likely win. Odds such as -200 or greater indicate a high probability of the favorite winning. This isn't always the case though, as nothing is ever a "lock" when it comes to predicting the outcome of a baseball game. It does however, give you some insight of the probability though, and that's a tidbit of information that can prove to be very valuable to your daily fantasy baseball success.
A great way that you can make use of MLB lines is to check out the total (aka: over/under) on the game, which will give you a general idea of how many runs are expected to be scored in the game by both teams. The average line shows most games to land around 8-9 runs. If a stud pitcher is going, this line can drop as low as 6. If two gas cans are facing each other, a line can be as lofty as 12 runs. If a game is being played in a hitters ballpark and the wind is blowing out, a total could reach as high as 14-15. The point of the story here is that you should always "at least" take a peek at the days odds to see what the pros are forecasting with regards to which team is probable to win and approximately how many runs will be scored in the game. If you're looking at hitters from a game and the projected total is 6, you might want to further investigate to see if the wind is blowing in, if there's inclement weather or if they're playing in a big ballpark that doesn't yield many runs. Conversely, if a game has a total of 14, you might scratch off those pitchers names from your list of prospects and look elsewhere, because there's a good chance that the wind may be blowing out or the starting pitchers haven't done well in their recent starts.
