Weekly Fantasy Football Tip: Avoid Good RB's on Bad Teams When Playing Good Teams
by Lootmeister of RotoPicks.com
If you want to win long term in weekly fantasy football, you're going to need to get educated and pull out all the stops when it comes to doing your research,. An often times overlooked factor that you should be paying attention to is who the opponents are of the players that you're looking to draft/pick.
Many fantasy football weekend warriors are blinded by this thought because all they're thinking about is taking a player they like, selecting a guy because he's got nice stats or worse yet, because his salary is cheap.
Weekly fantasy sites like Draftkings have complex algorythms that they use to determine the price of a player. They don't divulge what variables they employ to create the pricing, but you can bet that it's a bit more astute than you would think and takes things into consideration that most of us don't think about.
With that being said, and the reason for this article, I'd like to talk about passing on good running backs on bad teams, especially if their salaries are high.

The reason for passing is very simple. When a bad team plays a good team, the bad team is often times forced into abandoning their gameplan in order to stay competitive in the matchup. More specifically, if the good team is leading by a couple touchdowns, the bad team will be forced to throw the ball more, creating a situation which gives the good RB on the bad team lesser carries.
This strategy is no "lock" by any means, but should definitely be something that you should take into consideration, especially vs. good teams with a high powered aerial attack. How many times have you been watching a game and seen another team get up big and your RB gets little to no action in the second half? It's a brutal situation to be stuck in and one that can be avoided with proper preparation.
Most can predetermine which teams are bad and which are good, but we'll give you a few tips just to be safe:
1. Examine the point spread of the game. If one team is favorited to win by 10 points or more, you might want to consider avoiding taking the running back on the underdog team.
2. Look at the standings. A simple check of a win/loss record can help you out.
3. Look up how many points each team has scored. If the good team has put up 450 points during the season and the bad team 300, this is an indication that the bad team has potential to get blown out.
While this strategy isn't the most important one to consider when picking a weekly fantasy football team, it's surely one to consider. How many times have you been one point (or less) out of the money? I personally have found myself in this situation countless times and often times while reviewing what I did wrong, I had drafted a great player on a bad team in a potentially risky situation when it came to that player's PT (playing time).
